Progreso, Mexico
South Padre Island - The gorgeous get-away spot of South Padre Island offers unforgettable days of relaxation, lounging on the beautiful white sandy beaches, and sipping cocktails while the sun sets. While you are there, don't forget to dine in one of the many sea-side restaurants and visit the quaint shops for souvenirs, clothing, and gifts. If you like to fish, then charter a boat for the day and try your hand at deep sea fishing. Or you can enjoy a variety of water sports like water skiing, sailing, kite and wind surfing, para-sailing and swimming. Once you visit the Island, you will want to return again and again.

World Birding Center
Progreso, Mexico - All the incredible shopping, dining, and tourism of Old Mexico awaits you, right across the border in Progreso! Widely known as the best place to cross the border in South Texas, Progreso offers a covered bridge entry, so you can simply walk across the border and spend a fun day in Mexico. Progreso is a hot-spot for shopping and bargain hunting, or for enjoying authentic Mexican cuisine. The town puts on regular festivals and events, so watch for music and folk dancing in the main square while you enjoy your margarita or succulent seafood. Prices are low in Progreso, so step across the border and see what bargains you can discover.
World Birding Center - The lower Rio Grande Valley is the center of a phenomenal convergence of birds from all over North America. This first-class birding destination is the setting for the World Birding Center, a network of nine birding sites that stretch from South Padre Island to Roma. These nine sites include wetlands, beach surf, riverside woodlands, and scenic bluffs. Stop at any of these nine sites -- or at the headquarters at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park -- to watch for orioles, kites, parrots, parakeets, green jays, and nearly 300 other species. The center provides viewing stations, watching towers, special programs, and interpretive centers. local4
